A veteran academic, Prof. Obwoya Kinyera Sam holds a PhD in Physics (Materials Science) from Makerere University; MSc (Materials Science) from Reading University, UK; Advanced Diploma in Education (Science) from the University of Bristol (UK); and BSc/Ed from Makerere University.

He has previously served as a Professor of Physics at Kyambogo University, Kampala Uganda; where he taught physics and supervised students for more than twenty-five years.

He has served in many capacities including Chairperson of The Governing Council, Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) and Principal of Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK); member of Governing Council of National Teachers College Unyama and Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT).

While at Kyambogo University, Prof. Obwoya served as Director Open Distance and E-learning Centre, Head Physics Department, Chairperson of many committees which included: Local Boards of Surveys; General Regulations Governing In-Service and Certificate Committee; General Regulations Review Committee; the National Educational Consultancy and Advisory Bureau (NECAB); General Regulations Governing In-Service Diploma and Certificates; Examination Regulations Committee for BEd, Diploma and Certificates Committee; Editorial Board for Uganda Science Educational Bulletin; and Chairperson, Institute General Regulations Governing BEd program.

Prof. Obwoya has also had a stint as a visiting professor at the University of Princeton, USA and external examiner at the University of Nairobi. Currently, he is a member of the Editorial Board of the East African Journal of Science, Technology and Innovation.
